The Nobel Prize in literature will be announced on Thursday

Hungarian writer Laszlo Krasznahorkai has been awarded the 2025 Nobel Prize in Literature for his compelling and visionary body of work that reaffirms the power of art in the midst of apocalyptic terror. He is the second Hungarian to win the prestigious award after Imre Kertesz in 2002. Krasznahorkai’s writing, characterized by absurdism and grotesque excess, has garnered critical acclaim and he has collaborated closely with filmmaker Bela Tarr on several adaptations of his works. The Nobel Prize in Literature, established in 1901, has recognized notable authors such as William Faulkner, Orhan Pamuk, and last year’s winner Han Kang. The selection process for the prize has faced criticism in the past, with controversial choices sparking debate among literary circles.
